He raised two daughters with his wife Margaret, and has been the carer for Mr John Farragher OAM for over thirty years. Thomas has a love for sport, coaching soccer at club and state levels for fifty years - this is where he met his wife. The last twenty one years were spent at Blaxland Redbacks coaching and as a member of the committee. He is also recognised as a life member of the club. Thomas was presented the NSW Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Award for his volunteer work in soccer and athletics in 2017. In his spare time, Thomas enjoys a round of golf in the Vets competition at Penrith or chasing after his grandson.
